Mitchell has an undying passion for composing original music…
With over 14 years experience in music production and songwriting, and over a decade of experience in composing for films, commercials and editorials, Mitchell has developed an impressive catalogue of work which has been recognised by directors and producers, bands and solo artists, both locally and internationally.
His passion for music developed at a young age. Mitchell attended The McDonald College, a school focused on performing arts in Sydney, exploring avenues in acting, musical theatre, dance and visual arts, but majoring in music (performance and composition). It is here that Mitchell also studied and completed AMEB Musicianship.
Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA), recognised his talent in 2011 as a performer and offered him a position at their Summer Program as a drummer. Here he was mentored by Dave Mattacks (drummer for Elton John), and Vinx Mon (Sting's Percussionist).
His talent was also recognised domestically as he was appointed Principle Percussionist of The Sydney Youth Flagship Orchestra from 2011-2014, and a section position in The Sydney Symphony Sinfonia in 2014.
Mitchell studied Orchestral Percussion at The Sydney Conservatorium Of Music where he nurtured his love of orchestral music, and gained a deeper understanding of the many forms of composition. Here, he had the pleasure of working with Daryl Pratt, Synergy Percussion, Richard Miller and various internationally renowned musicians. During this period, Mitchell did some TV composing experience with Stephen Rae (Sydney-based film & TV composer) on the TV series 'Puberty Blues'.
After working a few years post-university scoring numerous films and editorials, Mitchell taught Composition at The McDonald College. During this time, Mitchell and his colleague Luke Fuller founded GOYA - a recording/post-production studio in Five Dock. The pair have been collaborating and working together on various projects in that time - albums, EPs, Singles, Films, Ads, Editorials, etc. - and building a name for GOYA. This includes the Australian musical ‘The Life Of Us’, which received high appraisal from musical theatre paramount Stephen Schwartz himself.
During COVID, Mitchell spent most of the days and nights tirelessly working on various projects including: REMNANTS (horror feature film), DREAMGOOD’s concept album, MEOW XX’s upcoming albums, HUNTER FARLOW’s upcoming albums, and songs for a few other artists.
Mitchell focuses all time and effort on pursuing his love of scoring, as well as producing MEOW XX, DREAMGOOD, Driftwood, and Hunter Farlow.
